ELA 6th Grade - Updated 9/8/16

This page outlines the Tier I instruction provided to all children. Below is the outline for ELA Genre Units and Writing Assessments.  Please remember we are still using a Guided Reading Model in addition to the Genre Units for Reading Instruction. We are using a Writer's Workshop model in addition to the Genre Units.  For the 2016-2017 School Year, all Writing Assessment and CCGR Scores will be recorded within itslearning's ELA Unit (You will not need to put these scores in Data Director, and students do not need to submit this information online).

Any student requiring a DRA assessment will still need to be recorded in Data Director.

Please use the prompt below to obtain an updated sample of where students are at in their writing fluency.  

On this writing piece, please make sure that students include their first name, last name, grade, and building.
 
We would like this completed by Friday December 15th. On December 18th, we will be pile scoring our writing tracker samples, as well as looking at how we can use a Writing Tracker rubric (aligned to the Common Core) to score student writing.  I am requesting that each building select two teachers to attend this workshop. If you are interested in participating, please reach out to your building principal.
 
The four selected teachers from your building will bring the papers (Grades 2-3) for pile scoring. When they return from the training, they will share what they learned at the next building staff meeting.  This will help teachers in supporting students with writing their individual Writing Goals for 2nd Trimester.

I wanted to follow up on the status of the Writing Tracker work. We are working on securing the folders for Grades 3-6. Unfortunately, they have not arrived yet. However, with that being said, we still would like you to move forward with this very important work.
 
Please use the attached prompt to provide a baseline sample of where students are at in their writing fluency.  On this writing piece, please make sure that students include their name, grade, and building.
 
We would like this completed by September 22nd. On September 25th and 26th, we will be having a Writing Tracker Workshop to review the writing samples as well as look at how we can use a Writing Tracker rubric (aligned to the Common Core) to score student writing.  I am requesting that each building select two teachers to attend this workshop (each day). If you are interested in participating, please reach out to your building principal.
